San Jose Winners Visit 2007

On September 14th Internetworking Gold medal winners, Kolton Drake and Todd Moore and there Academy instructors K Kirkendall, and David Carroll were invited to tour the San Jose Cisco campus. They met with Cisco engineers Doug Alger (Data Center Infrastructure), Joseph O’Donnell (AABU Cable System Test), Karla James (CBC Technical Operations), and Tony Youssef (Corporate Compliance).

Brent Knox (SIGMAnet) and Bob Schoenherr (National SkillsUSA Internetworking Chairman for Cisco) setup the tour and escorted the group around the campus. Joining the tour in the morning were Cisco Networking Academy member, Alexia Petersen (CLI Academy Support Representative) and Asif Hudani, Senior Vice President, SIGMAnet, Inc.

The group had lunch in building 11 where they visited with Bill Moffitt, Product manager for the Networking Academy and Amy Christen, Vice President Cisco Networking Academy and Corporate Affairs. Amy ask them questions about their achievement and made them feel like a Cisco VIP. The morning was debriefed and academy information was shared with the group.

The afternoon started at the Executive Briefing Center (EBC) in building 10. Karla James greeted the group and escorted them to the new products area. Karla showed many of the new ways that Cisco can help with emergency communications, product security, and a robotic doctor. The group had a great time trying out all these technologies including IPICS technologies, and Kolton and Todd helped restore a frozen PC. The demonstration really showed a practical use for the network.

They then ventured to the Compliance lab where Tony Youssef , Director of Quality Assurance, met the team. Tony explained the importance of worldwide standards and how Cisco performs all compliance tests before the product is ever used by a customer. Tony and his testing engineers stated that you do your engineering right then perform the testing not the other way around. The group observed, safety, mechanical, temperature, pressure, EMI-RFI, and integration testing. Tony showed the very prestigious Helen Keller award that Cisco had earned for their work with the disabled.
